Crack Injections

You are here: Home / Crack Injections

Poured Concrete walls can crack.  Small cracks that don't leak normally are nothing to worry about.  But when you have moisture or water entering through these cracks they should be sealed.

Foundation Worx offers repairs for leaking cracks or cracks that seep water into your home or business.

What does the repair look like?

A common crack injection or basement crack repair will involve installing "ports" into the wall.  This can be done on top of the crack or by drilling next to the crack.

Once the ports are installed the rest of the crack will be sealed by using an epoxy or hydraulic cement.  This is meant to contain the injection materials inside the crack and keep them from coming out.

Polyurethane (or Urethane) is then injected into the ports.  This material will expand into the crack sealing off any areas for water to enter.

Not all cracks are the same so not all repairs will look the same.  Most leaking crack repairs are intended to prevent water intrusion, not structural movement.  If you have a foundation problem that caused the crack you should engage a foundation repair company (us!) or a structural engineer.  A general rule of thumb is any crack that you can stick two quarters into (like the old vending machines) may be a problem.  Smaller cracks are typically nothing to worry about.

NOTE:  Carbon Fiber can be used to reinforce cracks that continue to move or at risk for moving.  This type of crack repair would not prevent foundation settlement but would reinforce a crack.
