Up to 50% of the air in your crawl space will make it in to your home. This happens due to the “stack effect” which is when air moves through a building much like air through a chimney.
Encapsulation is a term used to describe sealing off a crawl space. This is done by installing a Class 1 vapor barrier (usually a 10-20 mil thick poly). The seams are overlapped, sealed and the vapor barrier is installed over the walls and any piers. This closes off the outside air and moisture/gases from the soils creating a much improved crawl space environment.
